Peso Pluma coming in heavy has made a remarkable impact on Regional Mexican Music, specifically Corridos Norteños, reaching unprecedented heights and making history on multiple occasions. Representing their country with pride, Hassan, often referred to as Peso Pluma, has repeatedly emphasized the significance of their success: “This is big. Not only for me. It’s big for my country!”
“Ella Baila Sola,” a collaboration between Peso Pluma and Eslabon Armado, was released in March 2k23 and quickly climbed the charts. The song broke records and propelled Peso Pluma to new heights, making them the first Mexican song ever to enter the top 5 on the Billboard’s Top 100 and #1 on Billboard Global 200! This achievement opened doors, broke barriers, and created opportunities, showcasing their resilience and talent while creating opportunities going against all odds gracefully. Riding their own momentum, Peso Pluma began collaborating with a gang of Latin artists across a myriad of genres. Within the same year, they released their debut album, “Genesis,” doing numbers which garnered significant attention and solidified their status as a leading force in Regional Mexican Music.
Peso Pluma's meteoric rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. Hassan, the lead singer, became an instant inspiration and a household name. Their motion landed them on numerous prominent platforms, with Hassan frequently appearing solo for interviews and podcasts, taking Mexican music global. Notably, Hassan became the first Mexican Artist to go Sneaker Shopping with Joe La Puma on Complex, a milestone previously achieved only by Canelo as the first Mexican overall. Additionally, Peso Pluma was the first Mexican artist featured on Spotify’s RADAR program, where Hassan expressed his love for his country and the surreal nature of their accomplishments.
The group caught the attention of American late-night TV, making Peso Pluma the first Regional Mexican artist to perform on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Their historic journey reached its pinnacle, the first Regional Mexican Artists to hit the stage at the MTV Music Video Awards. Making hella history with millions of Mexicans proudly watching from home.
Despite their rapid success, Peso Pluma remains grounded. When asked about unmet goals, Hassan shared personal stories of struggle, from working hard labor jobs to being a waiter at an upscale pizza parlor where he had to cut his hair and hide his tattoos. He also recounted his experience of coming to the U.S. as a teenager stating he learned English through rap music, influenced by hip-hop icons like Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Drake fueled his instilled ambition and that meeting them would be a dream come true but making a song with them would be over the moon!
In October 2k23, Peso Pluma visited LOS40.US studios and revealed his admiration for these artists. Meeting Jay-Z at the Grammy Awards, where both artists won was a highlight moment for Hassan as the young artist shook hands with Jay-Z as he sipped on Cognac out the grammy. Peso Pluma went on by saying, “Kanye west is his dream collab!” The hiipated second album, “Éxodo,” released in June 2k24, took the world by storm. The star-studded 24 song tracklist features collaborations with notable artists like Natanael Cano, Gabito Ballesteros, Anitta, Jasiel Nuñez, Chino Pacas, Arcangel, Cardi B, Rich The Kid, and Quavo. The album introduced a fresh sound to the airwaves, with the single “Gimme A Second 2” featuring Ty Dolla Sign and Kanye West, who dropped bars in a verse with Ty but also co-produced the track. The Chicago Goat Kanye West, historically collaborating Regional Mexican Music for the first time, making Hassan’s dreams come true. Although not yet confirmed if he actually got in the lab with Kanye either way, it’s up!
Despite all the love Peso Pluma openly has for the culture, Chicago ain't having it. On three separate occasions, Peso Pluma's performances in the city have been canceled, the most recent being at the Sueno Music Festival in late May 2k24. Authorities and park personnel evacuated everyone right after Maluma's set and just before the headliner, Peso Pluma was to take the stage. While the official reason given was the heavy rain, inside sources, who wish to remain anonymous, claim the evacuation was due to alleged cartel threats which actually happen often with Peso Pluma. This didn't stop the young talents from attending the festival's after-party.
Peso Pluma's journey from performing for small groups to selling out arenas is remarkable. They have won the hearts and inspired many worldwide, with a fanbase so diverse that a significant percentage don't speak Spanish. However, the group also faces unique challenges as Norteno Corridos musicians from Sinaloa. Even before the release of “Ella Baila Sola,” they were making waves in Mexico.
Their involvement in the glorification of the cartel lifestyle, most infamously associated with Sinaloa, and connections with figures like El Chapo have brought both big fame and big enemies. Despite the controversies, Peso Pluma remains the people's favorite, achieving milestones in less than a year that take most artists a lifetime. Fans eagerly follow Hassan's constantly trending fashion and unique style, which many see as a breath of fresh air, while others believe he shines so brightly he might burn out quickly.
